Complete your Profile

Would you leave important details off your resume? Because LinkedIn connections can be used for many types of networking goals, creating a full LinkedIn profile will help others find you more quickly – when they need to locate someone with your unique set of skills or experiences.

A complete profile means adding a great photo and contact info, along with details about your education, job history, recommendations and personal interests. Take some time to do this (if you haven’t already done so.)

Optimize your Profile

After completing your profile, go back through all your information and insert keywords or phrases that people might type if they were searching for someone like you. This is the crucial step for optimizing your LinkedIn profile. Optimization helps increase the opportunities for others to find you online – not just in LinkedIn, but in Google, Bing and other major search engines, as well.

  

BUILD CREDIBILITY. Use the Answer Questions feature. Select a category related to your area of expertise to help answer other people’s questions, provide resources or give them your opinions. Through your expert contributions, you’ll create a reputation as an authority and increase respect and credibility over time. This tool also shows new questions initiated from your network that you can review or contribute your input.

BUILD REFERRALS. Use the Recommendations feature to request a testimonial. A solid collection of referrals is more powerful than any magazine ad for communicating how good you really are at your job. LinkedIn Recommendations actually showcase the people who will support what you claim you can do. When others are looking to hire you or your company, recommendations from your connections will provide a quick objective snapshot of your skills.
