QR Codes Enhance Offline Marketing

More Ways to market with QR CodesQuick Response (QR) Codes are an extremely large growing area with the advancement of smart phones. More and more, when people see something they like, they’ll use their smartphone to “scan” its accompanying QR code to get more information.

A QR (quick response) code is a unique matrix barcode that is “read” by customers taking a picture of it with their smartphones – using a phone app called a “QR Reader”. (There are several available for each mobile operating system.)

Each QR code is created from a unique set of black squares arranged in random patterns on a white background. When placed in our physical world (such as in stores, on road signs or products, the QR code performs a pre-defined action to further engage the consumer. Actions include:

  • forwarding to a specific landing page
  • bringing up a coupon for instant savings
  • showing or automatically dialing a phone number
  • revealing text information
  • showing a video
  • and many other creative actions

 
How QR Code Marketing Works

Initially, companies were using QR codes in social media. To add as a friend or like on a Facebook page, a potential customer can take a picture of this code with their phone and can be automatically “liked”.
